WELCOME
Welcome! I’m Richard Bly, the creator of the Rick Heyworth music project.
Although I’ve spent most of my professional life in the computer industry, music has always been one of my greatest interests. Throughout my career I didn’t simply watch technology evolve—I was part of it. From the early days of computing through decades of innovation, including my years at NASA, I worked on the leading edge of technology while continuing to pursue my passion for creativity and storytelling.
For many years I wanted a way to separate my creative work from my everyday life, so I created an alter ego named Rick Heyworth. Over time, Rick accompanied me through a variety of creative projects, evolving as new ideas and new technologies emerged.
When artificial intelligence reached the point where it could help create music, voices, artwork, photographs, and video, I recognized it as another creative tool. Rather than replacing imagination, it gave independent creators the opportunity to bring ideas to life in ways that once required an entire recording studio, film crew, and production company.
Rick Heyworth is not simply an AI-generated singer. He is a fictional country music artist created to perform songs inspired by real-life experiences. In keeping with the traditions of country music, the stories behind the songs begin with genuine memories, emotions, and events. Rick’s role is to bring those stories to life through music and performance.
My role is to create the stories, write the lyrics, guide every creative decision, and oversee each stage of production. AI assists in creating the performer, the music, the artwork, the characters, and the videos, but every project begins with a human story and a desire to preserve it through music.
Throughout this website you’ll discover not only the finished songs and videos, but also the stories behind them. You’ll learn how Rick Heyworth came to be, how the music and videos were created, and how real-life experiences were transformed into stories that others can enjoy.
Thank you for visiting, and welcome to the journey.
THE EVOLUTION OF RICK HEYWORTH
Every character has a beginning, and Rick Heyworth is no exception.
Many years ago I decided I wanted a fictional character who could represent my creative side. I wasn’t trying to hide my identity. I wanted an alter ego that could grow and evolve alongside my ideas and creative projects.
Since my first name is Richard, choosing “Rick” came naturally. For a surname, I chose Heyworth, the name of a small town in Illinois. The combination sounded authentic, memorable, and distinctly American.
With that simple decision, Rick Heyworth was born.
Over the years, Rick appeared in many of my creative endeavors, gradually becoming my public creative persona. As technology advanced, so did Rick. He evolved through websites, creative projects, and new ideas, eventually becoming the country music artist you see today.
My professional career kept me on the leading edge of technology, and I learned that every new generation of tools opened new possibilities for creative expression. When artificial intelligence matured to the point where it could assist with music, voices, artwork, images, and video, I realized I finally had the opportunity to bring Rick to life in a way that had never before been possible.
Rick Heyworth became more than a name. He became the performer through whom I could tell stories inspired by real-life experiences. Although Rick is fictional, the stories he performs are grounded in genuine memories, emotions, and events. That combination of real experiences, fictional characters, and modern technology became the foundation of the Rick Heyworth project.
Today, Rick continues to evolve. As technology improves, so will the ways his stories are presented. But the purpose remains unchanged: to tell meaningful stories, inspired by real life, through the timeless tradition of country music.
Rick Heyworth began as an idea many years ago. Today, he stands as the bridge between my memories, my creativity, and the music I hope others will enjoy.
THE MAKING OF “I THOUGHT WE’D OUTRUN TIME”

This project did not begin with artificial intelligence. It began with a real memory.
Country music has always been rooted in real life. For generations, country artists have written songs inspired by love, heartbreak, hope, friendship, and the moments that shape our lives. I Thought We’d Outrun Time was created in that same tradition.
The story is inspired by one of my own life experiences. While Rick Heyworth, Jake Morgan, and Lily Carter are fictional characters, the memories, emotions, and events that inspired the story are real.
The first step was writing the lyrics. Before there could be music, there had to be a story worth telling. Those lyrics became the foundation upon which every other part of the project would be built.
Once the story was written, Rick Heyworth was created as the artist who would tell it. He is a fictional country music performer with his own appearance, personality, and singing voice.
Jake Morgan and Lily Carter were then created as the visual characters who would bring the story to life on screen. They do not sing or speak. Their expressions, actions, and emotions tell the visual story while Rick Heyworth tells it through the music.
The Red Dirt Honky Tonk was created because the lady who inspired this song and I first met in a honky-tonk. Although the video does not recreate the original location, the fictional Red Dirt Honky Tonk represents the spirit of The Top Rail in Dallas, Texas, where our story first began.
One detail was never open to discussion—the first dance.
The first dance in the story had to be a waltz because the first dance I shared with the lady who inspired this song was a waltz. Preserving that memory became one of the guiding principles of the production.
From that point forward, every scene was created from the real-life experiences that inspired the story. Nothing was included simply because it looked good on screen. Every meeting, every conversation, every dance, every smile, and every goodbye was intended to reflect the memories and emotions behind the song.
Modern artificial intelligence became an important creative tool, but it was never the beginning of the process. AI was used to help create Rick Heyworth’s singing voice and visual appearance, develop Jake Morgan and Lily Carter, generate artwork, design the Red Dirt Honky Tonk, help produce the music, and create the video scenes.
Every image, every scene, and every short video sequence required planning, creative direction, and many revisions. Character consistency, clothing, locations, and continuity all required repeated experimentation before they matched the vision I had in mind.
One of the greatest technical challenges was recreating the country waltz. What appears on the screen as a simple dance required countless prompt revisions, reference images, character refinements, and many discarded video clips before the movement finally conveyed the feeling I remembered from that first dance.
Every scene in this video is from real life experiences and memories, every one, no exceptions.
Artificial intelligence did not create this story. It simply gave me new ways to tell it.
My hope is that when you watch I Thought We’d Outrun Time, you won’t simply see a music video. I hope you’ll experience a story born from a real chapter of my life, told through fictional characters, and brought to life through music, imagination, and modern technology.
